The Presidio of San Francisco captures the essence of romance for engagement photos with its unique charm. For Jen and Sam especially, there wasn’t a more fitting location to capture their connection. It allowed us the space for roaming and authentic interaction while the Golden Gate Bridge made a cameo in the background. As a couple whose dynamic radiates artistic soul and gentle sweetness, it was important to Sam and Jen that their photos felt true to them. From the scenery to the couple themselves, this session was amazing from start to finish.

The Presidio in San Francisco, CA, offers a little bit of everything—lush green fields, dreamy views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and that magical coastal light you can only find in California. Before our session, Jen shared that she grew up splashing in the cold Pacific waters and it was important to include that childlike playfulness in their photos. The openness of this location–my personal favorite aspect– gave them the space to run, splash, spin, and enjoy their session together without a crowd watching.
Perks of a Presidio Park Photoshoot
The privacy the location offers is great for couples who want their photos to be candid, but aren’t huge fans of PDA. When I first met them, Jen & Sam told me that they feel a little awkward in front of cameras, but you’d never know it by looking at their photos. The sunset over the ocean was an added bonus that created the gorgeous reflection on the water, which enhanced the romance in the air that day.

The energy at The Presidio is electric, but it’s nothing compared to the chemistry between Jen and Sam. Within the first few clicks of my camera, there was no doubt in my mind that these two are completely at home with each other. In watching them together, I noticed that Sam almost seemed to read Jen’s mind. She settled into his arms so easily from the very beginning and he intuitively ensured she was comfortable in every pose without a word. While their five year relationship is one filled with a cozy comfort, they are also incredibly joyful and playful together. As a couple, they value authenticity and wanted their photos to reflect that. The filmy, warm, documentary and emotion-filled images that showcase their relationship dynamic are why I love this gallery!
Tips for Your Presidio Park Photoshoot
If you’re planning a session at The Presidio, a little prep goes a long way. While the vastness of the area is one of the features that draws me to the location, it also means you’re going to get those steps in! Expect to walk—a lot. There’s at least a 5-minute stroll from the grassy fields to the shoreline, and quick drives (3-4 minutes) between some of the best spots.
Here’s a tip if you’re considering the location for your own Bay Area engagement photos: bring a change of shoes. Not only will it come in handy with the distances between terrains, the ground is also soft in some areas. The back-up comfy shoes are more of a necessity than a suggestion. It’s well worth the effort, though! The variety that can be achieved in one session is unmatched. And as Jen and Sam’s gallery shows, it’s a location where magic happens.
